How Slab Leak Detection Works
If you suspect a leak under your foundation, the first step is not tearing into the slab. It is confirming there is a leak and finding its location as precisely as possible. Our licensed plumbers use a combination of methods to do this without unnecessary damage to your floors or foundation.
A typical visit starts with a review of your water usage and a check of the meter for movement when no water is running inside the home. From there, the plumber may use acoustic listening equipment to pick up the sound of water escaping a pressurized line, thermal imaging to spot temperature differences in the slab, or a tracer gas method that pushes a safe, detectable gas through the line so it can be traced to the leak point.
Once the leak is located, the plumber can explain your repair options, including spot repair, rerouting the line, or a broader repiping approach, and give you a firm quote before any work begins.
Acoustic Leak Detection
Sensitive listening equipment picks up the sound of pressurized water escaping a pipe beneath the slab.
Thermal Imaging
Infrared cameras can reveal temperature differences in flooring caused by water moving under the surface.
Tracer Gas Testing
A safe, detectable gas is introduced into the line and traced to pinpoint the exact leak location.
Pressure Testing
Isolating sections of the plumbing system helps confirm which line is affected before any digging starts.
